BLOKE Ocean Leung featuring BLOKE

Name of the Project: It Happened

1. About the Project
The tone of this project is based on temporary co-creations. We gathered friends that had been to Oil Street and North Point to create different events in the nearby area before this exhibition together with extras, and documented various experiences by writings, photos and videos. By the temporary encounters and short communications, we hope to keep ourselves distant as artists with positivity generated from terms like“Co-creation” and “Self-organization”.

2. About Us
From what I can recall about Oil Street Artist Village, It was one of those bizarre urban space that I discovered when I was hanging out with my secondary school classmates. It was the place where I first learnt about a new media – video – and spent a few good weekends learning DV at Z+ there.

After learning that the space had vanished when I started my studies in art, I went to the library and borrowed a Stanley Wong’s photography book called Oil Street Shut Down of which the photographs were so beautiful that the misery was seemingly over the top. As I took a ride with a colleague 7 years later, I finally realized in person that it’s gone. The building is left vacant while the land outside has been turned to a car pack. If you look up, you will see blurry old slogans on the façade, written by artists who climbed outside the artist, were washed out by time. The documentations look like that they were welcoming the developers to get in, while being sarcastic about the forced move out of the artist village. By then, I realized that all documentations about Oil Street Artist Village were valuable and rare, and my mourning comes too late.
